Indulgence

Indulgence

In the midst of all this adjustment, I have managed to discover an untapped indulgence – a throwback from my youth.

To my good fortune, as of yet, I have not fallen victim to many of the classic side-effects from the varied and toxic chemicals being pumped into my body (for the greater good, mind you).  However, as of about Day 2 of the very beginning of my treatments, my taste buds did a left turn and now most things have a metallic taste.  food smells wonderfully delicious as it passes near my nose, but is oddly off base when it hits the “buds.”

This hasn’t affected my appetite (in caloric contrast to another classic side-effect) - though I explained that I don’t have a loss of appetite, I’m just not that interested in eating.  This too has passed, and I just accept that things all taste a little off.  so as a result, I have sworn off my beloved lemon/lime seltzer until normal tasting returns.

However, I have discovered one sweet treat that cuts through the dining din and helps wash down a mountain of twice-daily pills: Chocolate Milk (low-fat/high-calcium Almond chocolate milk to be more specific – gotta stay healthy, right?).  Like they say, “A spoonful of chocolate milk helps the medicine go down!”

I hope you find your indulgence.  Wallow in it, look forward to it, and escape to it like an island of respite in a sea of turmoil (ok, well – it’s only chocolate milk, but the steroids make everything seem more accentuated).
